Didn’t Match? Don’t Despair!
The DICAS Match Day for dietetic internships has come and gone. No match? Second round match is open – maybe there are still some vacancies awaiting your application.
What now?
What if you don’t match? It does not mean that you are a failure. It means that you encountered a bump in your journey to becoming an RDN. This is a great opportunity to re-think your candidacy and how you “presented” yourself in this first round of application.
The sense of disappointment and rejection is real. Sit with it. Take a few deep breaths.
Don’t panic. Re-channel that energy towards what will you do next. Before moving forward, take time to reflect on your process and results. Then regroup and consider one of the many options available to you.
What are your “next step” options"?
• Apply to graduate school (now required to sit for the RD exam)
• Repeat courses that brought your GPA down
• Find a nutrition-related job
• Volunteer with a relevant organization
• Take the DTR exam https://www.cdrnet.org/NDTR
• Apply for a DTR position
• Build your network
• Find a mentor
• Apply for an ISPP (Individualized Supervised Practice Program) https://www.eatrightpro.org/acend/students-and-advancing-education/ispp
• Re-apply for dietetic internships through DICAS in the fall (November deadline)
