How did I get here?
While building and directing a coordinated graduate nutrition and dietetics program for 14 years, I spent a lot of time answering questions – from prospective students, professionals in other careers who wished to become a nutritionist, former students wishing to take their career in a different direction, and the graduate students in my program. Stepping back and reflecting on those years, I realized that it brought me great joy to help guide these individuals on their professional journey. At my own professional crossroad of stepping down from the program leadership role, it seemed logical to build a career coaching business for professionals.
About Me
My entire career has been devoted to the profession of nutrition and dietetics. The spark for this journey was an assignment during my undergraduate years where I had to critique a popular book written for the lay audience and evaluate it for the evidence. I chose a book about eating “right” for health and fitness that I had read during a one-year sabbatical between my sophomore and junior year in college. Each chapter left me eager to know more and with this feeling that “this is too good to be true”. It was! This started my lifelong passion for and commitment to nutrition and health. My journey has included clinical, foodservice management, community and public health, program administration and college teaching. I had the good fortune of mentorship that gave me the confidence to take on leadership roles at the state and national level within the profession. My commitment to volunteerism extends beyond the professional realm and has taken me to the local food shelf and rural communities in Africa.
In my non-working hours, I love being outside surrounded by nature, whether hiking or cross-country skiing in the nearby mountains, running on a trail, cycling the roads of Vermont or hula hooping in my backyard. Indoors, I enjoy cooking meals from scratch and pairing wine with the flavors (always an experiment). I have two adult children who always push me to reach a higher level in whatever activity we share. Exploring different cultures through travel also fuels my spirit – learning the history, discovering the food, and practicing a new language.
